WHO I SERVE

Therapy that already speaks the language.

For active duty service members carrying trauma, deployment stress or the weight of staying mission ready. Telehealth in Texas, Maryland and Massachusetts.

You should not have to explain the basics

One of the quiet costs of getting help outside the military community is spending the first three sessions translating. What a duty day is. Why a command climate matters. Why "just take some time off" is not a plan. Zandria Hooks, LCSW is prior active duty and currently serves in the National Guard as a mental health provider, so the context does not need building from scratch. You can start with the actual problem.

What service members bring in

Trauma and post-traumatic stress, the kind that shows up as sleep that will not come, a temper with a shorter fuse than it used to have, or a body that never fully stands down. Deployment stress before, during and after. Reintegration, where coming home turns out to be its own adjustment rather than the end of one. Anxiety and depression that have been managed quietly for years. Grief. Anger that is doing a job for you and has stopped being useful. Relationship strain from schedules, distance and the parts of the job that cannot be brought to the dinner table.

Plenty of people also arrive with nothing dramatic to report and a sense that they are running on fumes. That is a legitimate reason to be here.

How the work is structured

Zandria is EMDR trained and CPT certified, and both are trauma-focused approaches with a strong track record in military populations. CPT works on the conclusions that trauma leaves behind, the stuck points that sound like plain facts. EMDR works on memories that still fire as though they are current, and it does not require you to narrate what happened in detail. CBT covers the practical ground: sleep, anxiety, avoidance, and the daily mechanics of getting through a demanding job.

Sessions are goal-oriented. You should be able to say what you are working on and whether it is moving. For people whose working life runs on objectives and after-action review, that framing tends to be a relief rather than a constraint.

Telehealth only, for clients physically located in Texas, Maryland or Massachusetts at the time of the session. Sessions are $150 for private pay. Insurance and EAP are accepted, including Military OneSource and CuraLinc.

The confidentiality question

It is usually the first question and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. Confidentiality in this practice is governed by state law and clinical ethics, and the standard limits apply: imminent risk to yourself or another person, abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, and court orders. Working with a private practice through insurance, EAP or private pay is a different pathway than an on-base or in-network military behavioral health referral, and if your specific situation involves duty limitations, a security clearance or a command requirement, ask about it directly in the consult. You will get an honest answer about what this practice can and cannot promise, including when the honest answer is that you should speak with a legal or command resource rather than take a therapist's word for it.

Scheduling around a duty day

Sessions are by appointment with evenings available, which matters when your day does not end at five. Telehealth removes the drive and the waiting room, and it means a permanent change of station within Texas, Maryland or Massachusetts does not have to mean starting over with a new provider. If you move outside those states, care has to transfer, and you will get help thinking that through rather than a sudden stop.
