WHO I SERVE

# The family serves too.

For military spouses, partners and adult family members carrying deployments, moves, and the strain of loving someone whose job comes first. Telehealth in Texas, Maryland and Massachusetts.

A household holds a lot that never gets said out loud.

## The part nobody puts on a form

The service member has a chain of command, a unit and a set of resources. The spouse has a group chat and whatever is left of their own bandwidth. You are the one who keeps a household running through a deployment, who holds the plan together when the plan changes for the fourth time, who notices first that something is different since they got back, and who is often the last person anyone asks about.

Zandria Hooks, LCSW grew up in a military family and on overseas bases before serving herself, so the family side of this life is not theoretical to her. She is prior active duty and currently serves in the National Guard as a mental health provider.

## What spouses and family members work on here

Anxiety that has quietly become the baseline. Depression that arrived without a single obvious cause. Loneliness in a place where you do not have roots yet. Anger you do not feel entitled to. Resentment that sits uncomfortably next to pride. Grief for a career, a city or a version of your life that the last set of orders took away.

Secondary trauma is common and under-discussed. When someone you love comes home carrying something heavy, you carry a version of it too, through the details you learn, the nights you manage, and the constant low-level monitoring of how they are doing. That is a real load, and you do not have to have been there to be affected by it.

There is also the practical churn: permanent change of station moves, career interruptions, licenses and jobs that do not transfer, childcare that has to be rebuilt from nothing, and being the default parent for stretches at a time. A lot of what feels like a personal failing turns out to be a structural problem wearing a personal disguise.

## How the work runs

This practice sees adults individually. Sessions are collaborative and goal-oriented, drawing on CBT for anxiety, low mood, sleep and the practical mechanics of a life that keeps rearranging itself, and on trauma-focused work where trauma is part of the picture. Zandria is EMDR trained and CPT certified.

Individual therapy is not couples therapy, and it is not a place to be handed strategies for managing your partner. It is your hour. What tends to happen is that people leave with a clearer sense of what is theirs to carry and what is not, which usually improves the relationship as a side effect rather than a target.

Telehealth only, for adults physically located in Texas, Maryland or Massachusetts at the time of the session. $150 per session for private pay, with insurance and EAP accepted including Military OneSource and CuraLinc, both of which frequently cover family members.

## You are allowed to need this

The most common thing military spouses say in a first session is a version of "other people have it worse." Somebody always does. That has never been a good reason to go without support, and the comparison usually just keeps you stuck longer. If it has been on your mind long enough that you are reading this page, that is enough of a reason.
